What is the fire fighter learnership program?

-The fire fighter learnership programme is training and development program designed to provide individuals with the necessary skills and knowledge to become fire fighters

-The program includes both theorectical and practical training and covers topics such as a fire preventions, fire suppression , rescue operations and emergency medical services .participants will also be gaining valuable fire fighter experience through on the job training and mentorship from experienced fire fighters.

-The program is opened to individuals who meet the learnership needs and are committed to pursuing a career in fire fighter

Who Can Apply This Learnership Program:

APPLICANTS MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS:

– Grade 12 qualification (Mathematics and Physical Science
preferred)

– 18 years or older and not above 35 years

– Must not suffer from fear of confined spaces or heights

– Candidates Must be medically and physically fit

– Applicants Must be able to work in a team and cope with stressful situations

– No Criminal Record

Candidates will also be required to go at a medical examination and criminal background check as part of application process

PLEASE NOTE:
All shortlisted candidates will be required to undertake and pass the following compulsory fitness test

– Reach test (1.9 m)

– 2.4 km run (Males 11 minutes and Females 13 minutes)

– Push-ups (30 in 60 seconds)

– Sit-ups (30 in 60 seconds)

– Dead load carries (2 x 25 kg drums over a distance of 100 m

APPLICANTS NOTE:
Candidates who pass the physical test will

– be required to pass a written assessment and an interview

– be required to submit their fingerprints or identity numbers for the purpose of checking criminal records. No other criminal clearances will be acceptable

– be required to undergo a City medical evaluation

– be required to undergo a compulsory drug test at a City testing center
– be required to pass a claustrophobia and acrophobia test (fear of confined spaces and fear of heights)

Finally successful completion of the program will result in a nationally recognized qualifications which will greatly enhance learners career prospects in the fire fighting industry

Special conditions attached to the post:

– Non-permanent contract position for duration of training

– Candidates will only be appointed to a permanent Learner Fire – Fighter position on successful completion of the prescribed training programme, which includes the successfully completion of the

-Firefighter 1NFPA 1001, Hazmat Awareness NFPA 1072, Hazmat
Operations NFPA 1072 and First Aid Level 3 courses presented by
the learning institution

– Required to wear a uniform and protective clothing
