Requirements
Read More- B-Tech degree/Advanced Diploma in Nature Conservation
- Minimum of 5 years relevant operational experience in the conservation management field.
- Knowledge of the Public Financial Management Act and Financial management experience.
- Experience in Wildfire management in fire-prone ecosystems: 2 – 4 years
- Management, Report writing, Planning and Leadership Skills.
- A firearm competency certificate and the ability to use a wide range of firearms is a necessity.
- A sound knowledge of the NEMPA Act and other relevant legislation.
- Computer literate with a working knowledge of the Microsoft Office package
- Appointment as an Environmental Management Inspector (EMI)
- To have a working knowledge of relevant Environmental legislation such as the Protected Areas Act, Biodiversity Act, Conservation of Agricultural Resources Act and National Water Act.
- A driver’s licence is essential.
- No Criminal record- screening will be conducted. Honesty/integrity screening will be conducted.
- Working knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Regulations and other relevant legislation.
- Good communication, writing, conflict resolution and liaison skills.
Responsibilities
- Execute SANParks nature conservation policies and requirements of the park management plan.
- Ensure compliance with finance policies and the PFMA within the conservation department.
- Ensure legal compliance with firearms management and firearms legislation.
- Responsibility for natural resource and cultural resource management, monitoring and recording.
- Application of law, order and discipline through the National Environmental Management Act, regulations, and Code of Conduct.
- Oversee requirements and operations of Integrated Fire Management, the local FPA and partners.
- Have a good understanding of the management of the grassland biome.
- Initiate & monitor biodiversity projects/programmes in the Park.
- Oversee the maintenance of the footpath and trail network across the Park.
- Engage with all key stakeholders in a manner that enhances the organisation’s reputation.
- Work closely with local law enforcement and security agencies.
- Dealing with the tourism component park and upholding a safe and friendly tourist environment.
- Manage, lead, train and motivate conservation staff.
- Management of the budget and assets of the conservation department.

- The remuneration package includes an all-inclusive cost to company salary, based on the scale of a position with a Paterson D1 job grade, allowances and benefits as specified in the HR tariff Document and Conditions of Services of SANParks.
