The South African Tuberculosis Vaccine Initiative (SATVI), located within the Institute of Infectious Disease and Molecular Medicine, invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for a 25-month contract as a Study Coordinator. The position is based at the SATVI Project Office in Worcester and this office works on projects to determine Tuberculosis infection and disease status in study populations.

Requirements for the job:

  • Qualification as a Registered Nurse (Degree/Diploma)
  • At least 3 years’ experience working in a Clinical Research Study  
  • Experience in planning, implementation, start-up, enrolment, follow-up study closure and database lock in a health care setting
  • Current Good Clinical Practice (GCP) Guidelines (SA and ICH) Certificate
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills including fluency in English (written and spoken) and either Afrikaans or Xhosa
  • Current registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC)
  • Computer Literate (Microsoft Packages)
  • Valid Driver’s License and actively driving a light motor vehicle

The following will be advantageous:

  • Good record keeping skills and experience
  • Good decision making and prioritising capabilities
  • Project Management skills
  • Ability to work across a multidisciplinary team
  • Reside or have knowledge of the Cape Winelands East region
  • Managing HR issues in a diverse team
  • Decision-making & problem-solving skills
  • Adaptable to constantly changing environment
  • Clinical research experience in Tuberculosis 
  • Human Subject Protection (HSP) Certificate

Responsibilities:

  • All on-site project co-ordination activities associated with the efficient collection of data
  • Leadership and personnel management
  • General study administration
  • Quality control as well as data management with the scientific and clinical guidance from the Principal Investigator
  • Participant management
  • Community liaison

The annual cost of employment for 2023, including benefits is between R465 633 and R547 802, and is under review for 2024.

CENTRE FOR HIGHER EDUCATION DEVELOPMENT (CHED)

In striving to maintain its leading position in South Africa, the Careers Service (CS) at the University of Cape Town (UCT) invites applications for the permanent position of Director of Careers Service. UCT is seeking a leader to join an innovative and dynamic team to shape the direction of this multi-award-winning service as it navigates global trends and local challenges.

The Director of the Careers Service is responsible for the strategic leadership, management and development of the Careers Service and its staff. The Director will be expected to work closely with the Dean and Senior Management of CHED as well as senior management of the university to ensure that the goals and purpose of the service are aligned to and supportive of the university’s institutional priorities. The successful candidate would need to demonstrate this connection to the work of CHED in academic development and student support through practices, programmes, branding, social media and marketing. The Director will champion the   employability agenda to ensure that UCT students and graduates have the requisite attributes and experience to maximize their own potential and contribution to the global community in which they will work.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • A postgraduate qualification in a relevant field
  • 8 years recent and relevant experience, of which 5 years should be within a senior management/ leadership position in Higher Education.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the goals and responsibilities of the centralized careers service concept in Higher Education.
  • Experience and evidence of shaping and implementing a careers agenda both within an organisation and nationally.
  • Proven ability to use CRM or other management information systems to inform strategic direction and interventions.
  • Evidence of developed partnerships and collaborative work with faculty, students, alumni and employers.
  • Sound financial management experience.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) to support, lobby, and influence stakeholders.
  • Steering the complex processes involved in embedding careers education and development in the curriculum to demonstrate impact.
  • Experience in promoting entrepreneurship as embedded higher education practice.

THE FOLLOWING WOULD BE ADVANTAGEOUS:

  • Master’s qualification in a relevant field
  • Experience in conflict resolution.
  • Experience in applying strategic planning methods for organizational objectives.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide strategic and organisational leadership and development across CHED and the University.
  • Oversee external partnerships and stakeholder relations for the purpose of expanding employment opportunities for students and alumni.
  • Participate in professional development programmes and growth opportunities.
  • Motivate and lead a team of diverse professional staff, in a complex academic environment.
  • Fundraising and stewardship of donors
  • Offer professional guidance to further the goals of the Careers Service department, including a focus on entrepreneurship.
  • Responsible for fiscal planning, management and financial sustainability of careers service, including all operations and staffing matters.

The annual cost of employment, including benefits, is between R 1 205 749 and R 1 418 527
