This role is critical in ensuring accurate Point of Sale (POS) transactions, maintaining cash security, and delivering a superior shopping experience to our customers.
Cashier Job Summary
The primary purpose of the Cashier role is the accurate handling of all POS transactions and documentation. You will ensure that no stock leaves the store without being paid for while maintaining 100% accuracy in cash handling and administration.
Cashier Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this retail vacancy, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Education: Grade 12 (Matric) OR a minimum of one (1) year of relevant work experience.
- Communication: Fluent in English and the dominant local language of the store’s area.
- Skills: Ability to perform basic calculations accurately and strong administrative skills.
- Flexibility: Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and Public Holidays.
- Attributes: Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced retail environment.
Cashier Key Performance Areas
1. Cash Handling & POS Management
- Ensure all allocated cash (floats and petty cash) balances perfectly with no shorts or overs.
- Identify and capture goods correctly on the Point of Sale Terminal.
- Process correct payment types and ensure sufficient change is available at all times.
- Perform accurate “Pick-ups” and end-of-shift “Cash-ups.”
- Ensure all daily takings are securely dropped into the safe/vault.
2. Administration & Safety
- Sign, compile, and file all documentation related to the cashier function.
- Adhere to “Ready for Business” standards and the “Cashbuild Way.”
- Maintain OHSA (Safety) compliance to ensure the security of staff and customers.
- Strictly adhere to system password controls and cash transport protocols.
3. Customer Service Excellence
- Provide fast, friendly, and efficient service during check-in and check-out.
- Direct customers to the relevant departments or staff members for assistance.
- Maintain a professional appearance by complying with the company dress code.
