Are you a retail professional with a passion for quality meat products and operational excellence? SUPERSPAR Piet Retief is looking for a skilled and motivated Butchery Supervisor to lead our butchery department.
Reporting directly to the Store Manager, you will be responsible for driving sales, maintaining world-class food safety standards, and leading a high-performing team in a fast-paced retail environment.
Purpose of the Butchery Supervisor
The Butchery Supervisor is tasked with overseeing the daily operations of the butchery to meet agreed-upon sales targets and profitability standards. This role requires a hands-on leader who understands production planning, equipment handling, and the rigorous implementation of Food Safety standards.
Butchery Supervisor Key Performance Areas (KPAs)
1. Financial & Stock Management
- Profitability: Supervise butchery targets and implement strategies to drive department growth.
- Inventory Control: Set ideal stock levels for every product category and ensure Key Value Items (KVIs) are always available.
- Pricing Accuracy: Conduct price surveys to stay competitive and perform spot checks on display tickets to ensure they are neat and current.
- Waste Reduction: Accurately record stock transfers and ensure the correct packaging is used to minimize loss.
2. Operational Excellence
- Production Planning: Implement department plans to ensure the right range is available at the right time of day and week.
- Hygiene & Compliance: Supervise and maintain strict hygiene standards and ensure a deep understanding of company policies and SOPs.
- Equipment Safety: Demonstrate and oversee the safe handling of all butchery machinery.
3. Customer & Team Leadership
- Customer Service: Manage special customer orders and resolve complaints efficiently.
- Relationship Building: Build strategic relationships with both staff and customers to foster loyalty and a positive work culture.

Butchery Supervisor Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Education: Matric (Grade 12). A tertiary qualification in Retail or Business Management is an added advantage.
- Experience: 1–3 years of experience in a Butchery Supervision role.
- Skills: Strong numerical skills, assertiveness, and excellent decision-making abilities.
- Communication: High-level communication skills and a high degree of integrity.
Inherent Job Requirements:
- Flexibility: Ability to work irregular hours based on operational demands.
- Mobility: A valid South African driver’s license and own reliable transport.
- Relocation: Must be prepared to relocate to Piet Retief if necessary.
